A Quickie... MysteryZot Made a Little Less Mysterious
All right, signing on from a hotel wifi connection for a quick post. Having worked with MacZot creator Brian Ball in the past (not to mention having set up camp in his family's living room during last year's Macworld expo), I'm usually privvy to details on the so-called "mysteryzot's" the discount site sells once in a while. For the past few days, they've been running one that includes 5 apps for 5 bucks. You just won't know what they are until the sale is over and the orders sent out.
You probably know where this is going.
While people are going nuts trying to figure this one out, I figure you guys deserve a bit of a break and some insider knowledge. But then again, I can't just list the apps as that would ruin all the fun! (Actually, more like Brian would absolutely kill me.) So I've decided on a compromise. Everyone else doesn't have a clue what the apps are. You guys are gonna get five clues, one for each app.
- One app is an advertiser on this site. Bundle's already sounding good huh?
- One pretty much fully replaced an Apple application and piece of hardware for me.
- One is a great addition to your iLife and Apple's iWeb, for all you emerging stars out there.
- One's a great tool and cheat sheet for an ever more international world.
- One is a slick, indispensible tool for all you web developers out there.
Hope that helps guys, I will say that I'm very happy about purchasing this one, now that I know what's inside.
Only pity is that I had already bought two of the included apps previously for over $25 at full retail price, but that only makes the deal sweeter for the rest of you who aren't such shareware addicts.

ibackpack/iflashcards
textmate
If Textmate is in there for 5$, I promise I will definitely go and kiss Brian for such an amazing deal.
However, I highly doubt that Maczot would be able to make such a great deal
Ok, I'm still not sure I get this. Is it a one time payment of $5 and you get all five apps? Or do you pay $5 per app ($25)? This is a bit confusing. Could you elaborate on that for me?
My guesses:
-AppZapper
-HoudahSpot
-Cast Life
-Time Palette (World of Where?)
-PHPStudio
Appzapper or Awaken (no way we'd get CandyBar!)
?? (this one sounds intriguing)
CastLife
WorldOfWhere
PHP Studio...or hopefully CSSEdit
Pat > you're smoking crack.. delicious library, transmit and textmate for $5?! I wish!
My Guesses:
1. AppZapper
2. ???
3. Either a podcast app, or an app to add comments to your iWeb blog
4. World of Where
5. CSSEdit
1. AppZapper (though I'm hoping for Awaken, I already own AppZapper).
2. Replaces Apple app and piece of hardware? Hmm... eh... Soulver?
3. Eh, dunno... Cast Life?
4. Time Palette.
5. xScope (or maybe Xyle Scope).
CSSEdit sounds more likely than Textmate, still CSSEdit is a wonderful application
So good there is hardly a point to do it by hand anymore.

You guys are doing pretty good, 4/5 of the apps have been guessed in the comments.
And yes, it's $5 for the entire bundle Shawn.
Thanks Phill, I just ordered my package.. sweet deal.. Even if I own a couple of them already.. 5$ is nothing ![]()
Thanks for the heads up.
alright here's my final guess (though I kinda hope I'm not right as I have all of these already)
Appzapper
Matinee
CastLife
WorldOfWhere
PHPStudio
For the one that Phill says "One pretty much fully replaced an Apple application and piece of hardware for me."
I'm pretty sure that it is Soulver. Replaces the Apple calculator, and a physical one.
Here is my guess:
CandyBar
DevonNote
CastLife
WorldOfWhere
TextExpander
Although I know at least 1 is wrong since two of the apps have not been guessed yet and if 4 of the apps are ones that people have listed that leaves only 1 left to be guessed.
Because of you I splurged the 5 bucks.
It's worth it for the anticipation alone!
Thanks for the heads up, Phill!
I'm hoping for AppZapper, CSSEdit, Awaken, Soulver, and CandyBar. If a single one of those applications makes it into the bundle, I'll be happy.
Paul,
I was about to ask the same thing. If so, that's an incredible deal!
I just bought it.
I usually spend lots of time researching and testing (if possible) software before I buy it - being a student I can't just spend money willy nilly - so spending money on something when I don't even know what it is makes me a little nervous.
But I figure; there's been a fair bit of hype around this "MysteryZot" thing so for £2.80 if I end up only liking one of the apps I wont feel like I wasted my money.
:)
Some guesses:
1. AppZapper or CandyBar
2. Soulver or Awaken
3. CastLife
4. World of Where
5. RapidWeaver
We'll find out tomorrow...
Love your site Phill. Always looking for a place with cool os x apps, and steps how to tweak em'. Digg brought me to your site, and since then, I visit every day.
Keep up the good work

July 15th, 2006 at 10:15pmNice tips. The app bundle sounds enticing and I can't wait to see what lands in my inbox. I'm thinking I may already own one or two of the apps based on some of the hints
