New Bravia Commercial: Paint
Last year's "Bouncing Balls" commercial for Sony's new LCD TV's was one of the coolest videos I've ever seen. (If you haven't seen that one yet, check it out here.) Well, they're at it again, and this time they've replaced bouncing balls with paint to spectacular effect. The crazy part? As far as I can tell from the behind the scenes video they have on the website, this was done with zero CGI. All "paint mortars" and explosives, or as one of the technicians described it, "fireworks but with paint". (EDIT: As my friend Brian points out, they probably did use CGI to remove the cranes, barrels, and techicians. But the paint seems 100% real.) Check it out by clicking below.

According to this blog post, the video's filming involved "70,000 litres of paint, 358 single bottle bombs 33 sextuple air cluster bombs, 22 Triple hung cluster bombs, 268 mortars, 33 Triple Mortars 22 Double mortars, 358 meters of weld, 330 meters of steel pipe, 57 km of copper wire", plus a scary guy in a clown costume. All for 60 seconds of your amusement. Now go buy a Bravia TV.

Wow, that's pretty wild.
I still think I like the bouncy balls better. Maybe it's the music.

The bouncy balls was way better yes.. not only the music but the cinematography (although they're both shot on HD Sony cams) The balls ad was more fluid, more esthetic and pleasing to the eye. This color explosion ad, is more static - relies more on docu-style shots to show what they accomplished. More camera moves, some slow motion and bette rmusic would have helped I personally think. Still a great watch
Love the ads. Thanks for the link. I found the name of the song for the Bouncy Balls ad but not for the Paint ad. Does anyone know what the name of the song is from the Paint ad?
Love it! It would be a ton of fun to do something like that. Every big kid's dream!
Decadent ad with a strange message: Buy a new telly and even your grey tenement block will become colorful.
But: Wow, damn. Genius strikes again. These Bravia spots are great. Even if I don't quite like the message this time. And what's that clown good for? Would be better without.
This was made round the corner from where I live...didnt get a chance to see it getting made tho...done in Toryglen, Glasgow, Scotland!
Now, the question is: if we buy the TV, do they make more really cool ads, or stop because they don't need to put as much into marketing on. On the other hand, if we don't buy the TV, they will put out MORE cool ads to sell their product, or give up....

@macleod
The music is from the overture of Rossini's La Gazza Ladra (The Thieving Magpie).
They took the front bit off, and only played the waltz section.
