The Obligatory Post-Party Post

June 20th, 2007 at 3:01am • Posted in My Projects, WWDC • Tagged My Projects, WWDC

Here it is. The party took place at the Aftermodern art gallery on the 13th, and I think I can say with confidence that it (almost) went without a hitch. So here’s the obligatory followup post, in a kind of photo journal format, with photos picked out from the search, “Delicious Generation”, on Flickr:

the hangout scene

The hangout scene outside, comprised of smokers, sweaty Mac geeks, and everyone who showed up but couldn’t get in. Photo by Scott Beale / Laughing Squid.

the t-shirts

An older photo not directly from the party, but these are the t-shirts we were giving out for free that night. Nothing like free t-shirts to lure geeks to a party. I kid, I kid.

stone design

Andy Stone of Stone Design showed up with a projector, a crazy camera setup, and projected the trippiest visuals on a blank wall for the whole night. I kid you not. This guy rocked.

stone design 2

Said visuals.

fullswing

The party in full swing. Lesson learned. Get a bigger venue next time. (It was crowded with 150 people on the guest list, and we had over 300 people who RSVP’d but got shafted on a spot. Ah well.) And if you like playing Where’s Waldo, can you find Cabel Sasser of Panic in the shot?

jazz band

Anton Schwartz (saxaphone) and the jazz trio. These guys were awesome. If you were at the party, you know I speaketh the truth. Now go buy his cd’s.

art

One of six pieces designer and friend Dan Goffin illustrated for the party. My co host John Casasanta of iClip, My Dream App, and I Like Olives had the idea of putting up posters around the art gallery of high res icons of Delicious Generation apps, and I wanted to take that a little further, and have a designer create more interpretive, experimental works of modern art. (This one’s for the MDA winner, Atmosphere.) At the end of the night, the curator of Aftermodern demanded I let him keep them. And if you like what you see, check out an awesome post by the artist detailing the process of creation.

mac rave!!

MAC RAVE PARTY!!! WOOO! I like the comment on the Flickr page for this one: “eww bo… :(

booze

Yeah. That’s $3500 of booze right there. The best stuff, and free for all guests. The crowd did get a little bit rowdy by the end of the night. :P

badass

I simultaneously cringe and glow with pride when I look at this photo. A true combination of badassery and utter geekiness. Awesome.

crowd 2

Another shot of the crowd. That navy sailor, by the way, turned out to be the surprise awesome guest that I invited of the night. He kept the audio equipment working during the demos, and got every drunk Mac geek in the room to shut the hell up when things got a little too rowdy. And as we shook hands at the end of the night, he told me that he’d travel around the world to come to the next party. One of the coolest moments for me definitely. (Also to note in this one, like omgz, a pretty Mac geek, not to mention an Apple employee. She had me crushing after five minutes of conversation. Too bad I have no game.)

stuff

StuFF mc of Pomcast interviewing the Keay brothers of Insanely Great Tees. He MC’d the party and helped set up the live stream. And I still don’t know his real name, because he demands to be called Stuff. Ah, crazy Belgians.

So that’s it for now, but if you have some awesome photos of the party, by all means upload em to Flickr and leave a comment linking to them. I’ll try to update this post with some more photos in a couple days.

EDIT: Ahh, just found this nice recap on Ars Technica about the party. Definitely worth checking out if you’ve made it this far.

Oh yeah, and no, Paul Kafasis did not show up to take mic, as I offered him in this previous post. Shame. I guess he was busy dousing the flames on the Rogue Amoeba blog. See Paul, that’s the problem with trolling. Sometimes it blows up in your face. Anyway, ‘nuf said about that. Be sure to leave comments if you were at the party, and I’d love to see some more photos pop up on Flickr if you had your camera!

EDIT 2: Oh, and this is a private message to the person only known to me as “Anonymous Swine”, with supposed email “anonymous_swine@theswine.anonymous.com” (I kid you not) who keeps posting pro Paul / anti Phill comments. Let me make this clear. I never moderate out legit comments, but if I think any are just completely out there, I email the commenter to figure out what’s going on, always offering the option to just request I shut the hell up and approve it in. (Though, on that note, I’ve never had anyone stick to their guns and actually request that after we talk.) But see, if you’re all anonymous, I can’t email you. So, please, screw up the courage, and email me. I won’t reveal your identity. I just want to talk.

It looks like the party really rocked — too bad I couldn’t go this year. So, see you next year?

[...] Update: For another little recap of the party read Phill Ryu’s entry on his blog. Oh, and it seems the curator of Aftermodern Gallery wanted to keep the prints for a while longer. If you haven’t seen them yet, hurry up. [...]

Thanks for the party – it was very classy. Good job on all counts – except, of course the sauna-like atmosphere :) Is that Jeff Dlouhy in a sweatshirt in one of those photos?

Bah! Can’t find me in any of those pictures. :p
Lots and lots of great people. In fact, a bit too crowded. I had trouble getting me beer from the bar. Great Party Phill!!!

Joe, I’d say an update from the app dev manager, John, should be expected within the next couple weeks with updates on the apps and some big news.

[...] Wednesday was the big day for our party. It seemed like the bulk of the trip revolved around getting the party together. In case you haven’t seen it, organizing partner, Phill Ryu, put up a party recap post recently. Phill and I are infamous for not getting along very well and we were yet again at each other’s throats before the party went live but it thankfully worked out well in the end. [...]
